Elisabetta Colabianchi : Kurandza

Elisabetta Colabianchi is the founder and executive director of Kurandza, a non-profit social enterprise that invests in the future of women in Mozambique. On September 1st, she is launching an incredible campaign called I Stand for Girls and she needs our support! She is rallying a group of individuals and small businesses to share in her mission to provide Holistic Education to girls in Mozambique, Africa. Last year, her goal was to raise funds for 100 girls to go to school and they surpassed that goal (check out the recap here)! This year, she is DOUBLING last year’s goal, and working to raise funds for 200 girls to attend school. This is where you come in!

There are three ways to get involved: as a launch team member, a giveback partner or a sponsor.

Elisabetta is currently building a launch team to help spread the word through social media, blog posts or other forms of media. If you’re interested in joining the launch team:

  • Go to www.kurandza.org/istandforgirls and sign up to get more information about the campaign

  • Commit to posting a photo of yourself on September 1st with #istandforgirls, sharing why women empowerment and girl’s education is important to you

  • Now get creative! You can share about the campaign however you’d like. This could include Instagram stories, lives, sharing on Facebook, blogging about the campaign, emailing your contacts, etc.

  • Just creating awareness about the campaign helps by getting the word out. As a launch team member, you are helping I Stand for Girls find giveback partners and sponsors!

If you’re a business, you can get involved as a giveback partner:

  • Go to www.kurandza.org/istandforgirls and sign up to get more information about the campaign

  • Commit to giving back a certain percentage of sales/ number of dollars per sale for the length of the campaign

And if you’re an individual or business interested in being a sponsor:

  • Go to www.kurandza.org/istandforgirls and sign up to get more information about the campaign

  • Commit to making a donation of $240 for a year or $20 per month for one year, or a one-time donation of any amount, that will go toward a girl’s education

Elisabetta explained the breakdown of costs and what that covers when a girl is sponsored: her backpack, uniform, school fees and supplies, transportation for those who need it and enrollment in Kurandza’s Holistic Education Program. Kurandza’s program includes after school tutoring, health education, empowerment (self-esteem and leadership) as well as extracurricular activities like sports, dance and art.

Kurandza is able to use any donation for the campaign for funding education, but is elated when they find long-term sponsors (so that girls can complete their education)!

They currently have three partner schools in Mozambique- a preschool, primary and secondary. Most girls who start the program are in 1st or 2nd grade, but kids can be as young as 2.5 years in preschool when they receive sponsorship, and as old as 18 years as they finish secondary education.

Final details to note: The campaign launches September 1, but Elisabetta is looking to have the launch team formed by August 3rd so there is plenty of time to prepare!

Huge huge shoutout to Elisabetta, as she pours her heart into Kurandza with her business partner, Percina. They are doing big things. I hope you will join Kurandza in the movement to provide quality education and empowerment to girls and young women in Mozambique.

Elisabetta is a University of San Diego graduate and former member of the peace corps. In addition to her work at Kurandza, she is also a consultant and mentor to other change-making women who are growing social impact businesses, and the leader of a nine month mastermind for change-makers called the Global Dream Collective.
